Painting Planning

Don't have many assignments to post here yet. It's mostly been writing and drafting so far. And a photo assignment in a photobooth. ... Which I won't be posting. =| However. I do have my plans for my first Nature and Culture painting assignment. Three 2x2 canvases of a landscape moving from naturalistic to abstract. I'm taking inspiration yet again from Mika Ninagawa, and painting some colourful flowers and cheeryblossom trees.

At the moment, I am half way through the abstract and mostly done with the naturalistic painting. I will be starting the cross over painting in the middle (half abstract half natural) in class today. We'll see how it turns out. I'm still unsure of how I want to finish the abstract, but I'd better decide before the week is up. I've only got so much time. Hopefully I can post a finished painting soon.

A New List of Assignments

Back to school means a new list of work to do. Joyous joy. Taking five courses this semester, not just four. So the workload's going to be a little more hectic. And two of those courses will involve more essay writing. Not my strong point.

Photography, Narrative Strategies
- Take a photo-booth photo
- Must contain a visible narrative

Painting, Nature and Culture
- Series of three landscapes
- One naturalistic, one abstract, and one in between
- each canvas needs to be approx. 2x2 feet. (That's 12 square feet. That's a lot of paint.)

Form and Structure
- Find a common object
- Produce a series of sketches and a narrative
- Re-build object in cardboard/paper

Essay and the Argument
- Find a photo from NYTimes year in review
- Write 500 word descriptive essay
- Whatever photo will be your main subject for the remainder of the year

I have a few ideas for things already. We'll see how they pan out. My landscapes, I think, are planned out well enough. Just need to print out a few reference photos of trees and flowers. Finish colouring a few thumbnail sketches. Might post those later.

Also have a few thoughts on this Form and Structure object. It's between my Buddha statue or my Eiffel Tower model. ... So far.

As for this photo-booth thing, I'm stumped. Hopefully I can come up with an idea fast, because I don't have much time to get this thing finished and edited.

Yes, I'm still here. Without school and with working a heck of a lot thanks to Christmas, (Christmas + retail = pure evil) I've hardly had any time to do art, let alone post. That and my card reader broke, and despite hinting to people that I needed one for Christmas, I had to wait till I was back from up north to buy one. So I can finally upload some pictures. Woo...

Also recently bought a new, handheld video camera. Just one of the little Flip ones. I put my photo of maiko Fukusato on it. So hopefully it'll turn out well.

Anyways, in light of not posting anything for a good month, have some life drawing photos!

Back to school on monday, so I'm sure there will be some new stuff to post soon.

What's to come...

Been so incredibly busy lately, I feel like I'm forgetting to update. I'm trying, really I am. Unfortunately working retail in December, despite school almost being over, will now eat up all of my free time. (I am always shocked at the money people will spend on cameras. It's ridiculous.)

But at least I can officially say: NO MORE POSTER SIZE DRAWINGS! Whoopee. I finished the last one last Friday. Handed it in today. I've got my fingers crossed for something better than a B, but who even knows anymore.

Had my portfolio interview Wednesday night. Had to wait around an extra two hours for it to start because a certain someone has horrible sense of time. (Brutal.) But I think I did well? I don't even know. My drawing marks are so randomly inconsistent. Everything from C- to A. But I suppose I'll be happy with anything above C- and not complain.

I have to take some photos of my final project to send in to my teacher, so hopefully those will be posted here, as well as some life drawings perhaps? We'll see what I get around to.

I'm almost happy that all I have left to worry about is my History Exam. Worth 30%, but if I manage another decent mark, I won't complain. At least we get to look at my three favourite art movements; Rococo, Neoclassicism, and Romanticism.

I just need to make some flash cards and I'm all set. I love working at a printing store.

Also adding, since she has checked out this little blog, that I absolutely loved Time Based Media and am very sad that it is over. It is not a course I initially looked forward to. I know nothing about circuits or video. And only just enough about blogging and websites. But I learned so much in such a short time and it was awesome to have such an enthusiastic teacher. A great class that will be much missed come next semester. Thanks, Janis. =]

Chroma Chronicles

Haven't updated in a while. Been incredibly busy with assignments. I'm practically drowning in them. But I at least finished the final assignment of my Colour Exploration class. Wooo.
The idea was basically to use multiple media (which I did, with ink, pencil crayon, paint, mylar, graphite, marker, and collage) and at least two different narratives in one piece.

So I ruined a first edition, 1950's copy of a British book. I drew, painted, and glued in a number of different parades making their way through the pages. I didn't get it quite finished, but I did do a few dozen pages. Which, if you're drawing something new that many times, it takes longer than you'd think. I'm pretty happy with it.

Photo Session

Took some photos for my Time Based Media blog this morning. All inspired by the amazing Mika Ninagawa. I love her photographs. They're pretty much what I inspire to take. I only wish I could get in somewhere that had a ton of goldfish. Her goldfish photos are some of my favourite.

So here are some photographs. All flowers. I figure they'd be more fun to look at than my research paper for History.

I'll have to take a few more in the morning, because all my favourites came out portrait, and I really need them in landscape. Silly me.

Time Based Media Blog

Just to make note, I am creating a blog specifically for my Time Based Media course. This is an actual assignment, and it will contain all of my Time Based Media projects. An audio file, a short film (which is posted further back on this blog,) and a video of my electronic project.
